What looked to be a fight to the finish quickly turned into a rout by St. Luke’s Sports Medicine, capping off their playoff run with an 18-7 win over #1 seeded “I Touched All Your Bases”.
The semi-finals for both championship teams were won in a lop-sided fashion, starting with the 6:30 game. I Touched All Your Bases raced out to an 4-1 lead in the first inning, tacking on a whopping 10 runs in the 2nd and a few insurance runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to secure their spot in the finals with an 18-2 win. Not to be outdone, St. Luke’s Sports Medicine followed suit by blasting through their semi-final game 19-3, sparked by an 8 run first inning. So the stage was set for a showdown of the two Ann Morrison superpowers, preparing to kick some balls, take names and bring home the bacon.
The championship game started with a bang, as St. Luke’s broke out a 6-run first inning, only to give it right back in the bottom frame as I Touched All Your Bases scored 5 to make it a 6-5 game. In what looked to be an offensive-driven game, it quickly became apparent that it was defense that set these two teams apart from the pack. Ryan Horton of I Touched All Your Bases collided in left field with a teammate in the 2nd inning, only to emerge with an unbelievable catch, hanging on with his legs to complete a double play! Not to be outdone, teammates Mike Guyette and Christina Moore also made outstanding catches in right field and pitcher, respectively, worthy of ESPN 8, the Ocho.
With their offense stymied and the score sitting at 6-6, St. Luke’s Sports Medicine led by captain Forrest Pecha, needed to help his team find a way to score while keeping their opponent’s offense at bay. Duo Tim Nicollelo and Sammie Nicollelo sparked the offense, booming kicks over fielders heads from the 2nd inning on, with Tim Dickerson and James Moore also taking on the role of playmakers, snagging a pop-up at catcher to complete a double play and making a diving catch in left field, thwarting a 4th inning rally. Those key plays proved to be the turning point in the championship, as St. Luke’s broke open the scoring, opening an 18-7 advantage and solidifying their spot in the Boise Kickball hall of fame. Congratulations!
Bringing his kickball skills up north from Georgia, Forrest Pecha showed off his offensive and defensive experience on the first night of kickball at Ann Morrison. Helping his team start with a bang, St. Luke's Sports Medicine rang up 13 quick points in two innings to secure a lead over their opponents. Forrest led his team as both a captain and player knocking in several runs himself and making some stellar plays up the middle of the infield. A sign of good things to come for this new team to Gameday...Great game Forrest!
